Upturn for downtown Las Vegas
Monday 16 June 2008
The mayor of Las Vegas has suggested that the previously unpopular downtown area of the city may be turning a corner.
According to Las Vegas local paper the Sun, the downtown area is gaining interest from people as far away as California, Arizona and Florida who are buying property there.
The newspaper reported that a number of clubs are opening soon or have opened and most of the city's condominium projects have been completed.
When asked about the area and current development, Oscar Goodman, mayor of Las Vegas, said: "I actually see this as a wonderful time to be honest. I think this is a great time to invest in downtown Las Vegas."
Describing the slightly slower-than-expected sales in the downtown area Margo Wheeler, Las Vegas' director of planning and development, said: "We're still a work in progress. I think there was a feeling that a downtown renaissance would be happening more quickly."
