Tourists lured to Caribbean by price incentives and temperate weather
Monday 16 June 2008
A programme designed to entice visitors to the Caribbean islands of St. Kitts and St. Nevis is employing cost cutting tactics to boost tourism.
The Fall in Love with St. Kitts & Nevis" offer will allow anyone staying at participating hotels to save close to 30 per cent on the price of their holiday.
Travel agent Tropical Tours are running the promotion in conjunction with American Airlines Vacations, and tourists taking part in the offer will receive between ten and 20 per cent off their flight.
Participants must make a reservation by June 30th and travel between now and November 30, 2008.
This is just one example of many companies looking to encourage visitors to the island.
Describing the island of St. Thomas, US website TwinCities said visitors: "Enjoy the sparkling turquoise waters, the nearly empty beaches and, most important, the cooling ocean breezes that kept daytime temperatures in the high 70s and low 80s."
Many Americans look to escape stifling temperatures in the summers, which according to the New York Times, can make places such as Houston "a miserable place" and the Caribbean an "attractive" option.
