'Special interest' in Cape Verde
Tuesday 20 May 2008
Cape Verde is to host a meeting of business people from mainland China, Macaua and Portuguese-speaking countries next week which could result in the creation of new businesses.
The Institute for Trade and Promotion of Investment (IPIM) has said the meeting, held from May 28th to May 30th, will provide an opportunity to see the development of the various countries involved.
Echo Chan, managing director of IPIM, told free news service, Macauhub: "This year, there is special interest in Cape Verde in the area of tourism but, in general terms, the Chinese businesspeople want to find out about the economic and social situation of the countries they visit for the meeting."
The meeting comes in the wake of an announcement last week that Cape Verde's Agencia Nacional de Communicacaoes (ANAC) has approved new regulation to legalise VoIP in Cape Verde.
Analyst Russell Southwood has suggested that the increased tourist trade in the area is attracting interest from operators that want to provide visitors with reduced international call rates.
