Investment giant to 'reinvent hospitality in Las Vegas'
Friday 13 June 2008
Nevada's tourist industry could be about to receive a big boost as a top UAE investment firm has announced plans to "reinvent hospitality in Las Vegas".
Zabeel Investments, which recently bought a 50 per cent stake in the Las Vegas Light Group, said its goal is to grow the group into a globally recognised hotel brand.
Al Hashimi, executive chairman of Zabeel, said: "It is not about a company that is going to put a restaurant here or there. It is about a company that has the potential to be the next major hospitality company in the world."
The weakening US dollar has provided Zabeel and others hoping to invest in property in the US with opportunities they would not otherwise have had "a year and a half ago because it was too expensive."
Describing the philosophy the two companies share, Andrew Sasson, founder and owner of the Light Group, said: "Dream it, live it, build it. That is Vegas. Dubai is exactly the same."
