French fancy

Tuesday 24 June 2008

As the credit crunch creates a nation of cautious savers, new research has revealed that a number of Brits would consider investing in property overseas in countries such as France.

MGM's Retirement Nation report has revealed that "a small but significant minority of Brits, three percent, plan to invest in overseas property" as their confidence in the UK housing market falls.

France is a very popular destination with overseas investors and research from the french tourism ministry has revealed that over a quarter of property investment (28 per cent) comes from British buyers.

Investment in the area has increased by 50 per cent since 1997 and now according to the tourism ministry there are approximately 300,000 foreigners that own a property in France.

The latest figures from FNAIM, the largest body of French estate agents, revealed that despite the downturn elsewhere, property prices in France rose 3.1 per cent in the first quarter of 2008.ADNFCR-1590-ID-18652889-ADNFCR
