Cyprus interior minister promises to ease the way for property investors
Friday 20 June 2008
Consumers looking to invest in property in Cyprus will be pleased to hear that newly-proposed legislation has been announced which aims to eliminate delays with issuing title deeds on properties.
The country's interior minister, Nicos Sylikiotis, was quoted in a statement by the Cyprus Property Action Group (CPAG) as saying that the issue will be resolved this year.
Mr Sylikiotis has had meetings with the Land Registry recently and, according to the Cyprus Mail, he assured CPAG that he was "ready to meet with them whenever needed and invited them to submit any special cases direct to him".
Keen to eliminate any possible delays with issuing title deeds, CPAG said that Mr Sylikiotis was "well aware of the specific details" and assured them that his interests lay with the "house-buying public".
Cyprus is a popular holiday destination for many Europeans because of its rich history and temperate climate.
It is the mythical birthplace of Aphrodite (the goddess of love) and Adonis and was home to King Cinyras.
A prosperous region, Cyprus has got the third highest per capita Gross Domestic Product in the EU, according to International Monetary Fund estimates.
