The Caribbean is flexing its tourism credentials with the announcement that an agreement has been reached to build a new multi-million pound holiday development.
Details of the proposed Cat Island Golf and Beach Resort were announced to residents of the island in a town meeting attended by the prime minister.
Reassuring residents, the Hon Hubert Ingraham said the government had given the project its full support.
Commenting on the development the prime minister, Mr Ingraham said: "I ask you to embrace it and appreciate it because I assure you, there are many other places in The Bahamas that would love to have what you are getting."
Developers are expected to spend $35 million on the resort that will occupy over 1,906 acres of land.
David Southworth, Cat Island partner's principal, said that the group is "Under Letter of Intent" with the Marriot hotel group for the construction of a 200 room hotel and casino.
Golf enthusiasts will be able to enjoy the resort's PGA Village which will be only the third such village in the world and will include a PGA museum and 18 hole professional golf course.
