Australia new employment standards should not deter expats and investors
Tuesday 01 July 2008
As the number of people searching for property in Australia increases, an expatriate lifestyle and property magazine has reassured Brits that they need not worry about new employment standards.
Shelter Offshore has advised that the new National Employment Standards (NES) to be introduced in Australia in 2010, should not discriminate against the expat community.
Rhiannon Davies, director of Shelter Offshore, explained that the new standards "are more geared to making things easier and more flexible for employers".
She continued: The NES certainly do not do is discriminate in any way between Australian and expatriate workers, therefore British expats looking for jobs in Australia need not be worried about the new standards when seeking employment."
According to Shelter Offshore, there is demand for property in Australia both as a result of Australians "actively seeking well-skilled and qualified Britons to relocate 'down under'" and Brits wanting to move there permanently.
Offering cheaper "cost of living, the weather and broad opportunities" Australia is popular with investors and those that want to relocate.
A Natwest survey taken in March 2008 has revealed that expats earned an average £67,000 compared to the UK average of £47,000.
