Brazil has revealed firm plans to host the 2016 Olympic Games, in a bid to improve the country's property and tourist industries as well as raising its international profile, it has been reported.
The country, which has already won the right to host the 2014 World Cup, has invested heavily in improvements to its infrastructure over the last several years - improvements which have seen it become popular among foreign property owners.
Industry news website Property Wire reports that Brazil's president, Lula da Silva, recently finished a fact finding trip to this year's Olympic host nation China, concluding that the South American nation is a suitable host for the event.
Rio de Janeiro has all the right conditions to win this bid even if it is in competition with cities such as Tokyo, Chicago and Madrid," the website reports him as saying. "We have learned from the Chinese about the event's organisation."
Earlier this month, a report by publisher Forbes suggested that Rio, Sao Paulo and other cities in Brazil are developing at a rapid rate.
With property still much cheaper than in more developed markets, these cities offer an excellent prospect to property investors looking for large capital appreciation. |
