Investors owning rented properties in Brazil are set to benefit from the growing levels of tourism being witnessed across South America, new figures have revealed.

News agency ANBA reports that more than 3.2 million people arrived in Brazil on international flights in the first six months of 2008, an increase of 2.7 per cent over the same period last year.

The figures, from Infraero - an organisation administering Brazil's main commercial airports - also suggested that international passenger numbers were up 5.7 per cent on regular flights to the country's main hubs.

Jeanine Pires, president of the Brazilian Tourism Institute (Embratur), said that growth of arrivals on regular flights during the first half of the year was excellent news for the country.

"It shows constant recovery in the number of arrivals on international flights, which is very good," she added.

From January to June, Sao Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport, the country's busiest airport, registered growth of 7.4 per cent in aircraft movement, compared with the same period last year.
In other news, Brazil's Rio de Janeiro will compete with six other cities for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, it was revealed this week. Typically, soaring levels of infrastructure investment and subsequent property booms follow for cities which successfully secure such high-profile events.
