Southern Spain has 'cachet' that makes property 'desirable'

Property investors looking for an unspoilt part of Spain should consider the Costa de la Luz and Tarifa, the most southerly town in mainland Europe.

That is according to finance website thisismoney.co.uk, which says Tarifa, the Coast of Light - 35 minutes from Morocco - lives up to its name as "the white villages glow against the golden sands and green plains".

The website claims that the area has a certain "cachet that keeps its limited housing stock desirable".

One property resident that was attracted by the laid back Spanish lifestyle was Zoe Ouwehand, who bought a house in Tarifa's old town ten years ago when it was a ruin, with adjoining 12th-century walls.

Talking to thisismoney, Ms Ouwehand explained the appeal of the place: "It has a delightfully authentic air, the colourful fishing fleet still leaves from the harbour and it is fascinating to wake up and look across to the shores of Africa. Most of the foreigners who live here are young and entrepreneurial."

An article in the American chronical yesterday stated that "the market's slowdown is very good news for cautious long-term investors as off-plan bargain priced properties abound".
